The Blue Ox Adventurer keeps things straightforward for anyone who just wants to tow without extra moving parts or frills. Its steel arms adjust to fit Blue Ox base plate tabs spaced 16" to 34" apart, locking down with a pair of quick pins. You can tweak the fit by loosening the hex bolts on the coupler, sliding the arms in or out, and tightening them down. Everything connects to a standard 2" hitch ball, giving you a dependable 5,000-lb capacity without extra bulk or complexity.
Weight matters, but strength matters more. This tow bar is built from heavy-duty steel and powder coated to fight off corrosion from road grime and weather. At just 28 lbs, it’s easy to handle when you’re hooking up or packing away, yet strong enough to keep your towed vehicle steady mile after mile. The solid, fixed-arm design keeps the connection firm and reliable on long cross-country runs.
Hooking up doesn’t require a degree in mechanics. The coupler on the Adventurer latches right onto a 2" hitch ball, and the base plate ends secure with two quick pins. Once the job’s done, the whole tow bar comes off the vehicle and folds together into a compact piece you can store in your RV bay or garage. No awkward pieces hanging off the front—just a clean, simple setup ready for the next trip.
If you already have base plates from other manufacturers, this bar can still fit right in. It connects directly with Blue Ox base plates, but adapters (sold separately) make it compatible with options from etrailer, Roadmaster, and Demco. That flexibility makes it a solid choice if you’ve got multiple setups or plan to change things later without replacing everything else.

To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.

The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Previous review, saying 6 - 8 hours installation, was for the tow bracket that I purchased with this tow bar. It took only a few minutes for this tow bar.
This is a great budget towbar. It was even easier than I expected to hook up to the car and connect to my motorcoach. I am towing a 2015 Honda Fit and I was able to easily pull my car around by hand after hooking it up to this towbar.

Very happy with this purchase. I understand this is more of the lower priced Blue Ox tow bars, but it's well built compared to others I've seen in the same price range.
My Blue Ox Tow Bar arrived faster than I expected. It fit the existing mounting brackets on my Jeep Wrangler perfectly. If my oil pump drive gear fails again, it will be easy for someone to tow me home. Now my wife won't worry so much when I'm hunting in the Wyoming mountains.

A very well made product, though way stronger than needed for a Smart Car, though it all went together problem free. It's barely visible on the vehicle which is great, as many are so ugly.
Good product. Did everything I needed it to do. Used it to tow my Jeep. Super easy to hook up to blue ox baseplate. I could barely even notice it back there.. pulled it with my F150. No problems turning. Kept the Jeep under control, even on the Oregon Coast. Another quality product from blue ox. etrailer did a great job helping me out. I purchased this tow bar to use with a Blue Ox base plate for my
1999 Mazda Miata. It is a very simple arrangement, with the 2 arms able to fold down to a smaller and more easily stored unit, but does not slide fore and aft as the more expensive tow bars do. As such, it takes a bit more manouvering of the towed vehicle to get it all lined up with the ball hitch. Not a problem for me, as the Miata is very light and easily pushed back and forth. Others with heavier vehicles may have more of an issue.
The quality of the tow bar is excellent. Price and delivery were also excellent. This is a great choice for a budget level tow bar.

Received my tow bar in excellent condition , amazing packaging . I was a little surprised that it required adjustment prior to use . My jeep already had a Blue Ox base plate installed so it was simple to slide the bar into the adapters . Much less complicated that my old bar . The only disadvantage is there is no way to keep the bar in an upright position . Looking forward to our first trip with it .

Solid and easy to handle and adjust. Safety cables are more than a foot too short for this tow bar application. Otherwise you'd have received a 5 star.
We have used this tow hitch / bar for over 12 months now. We have travelled from the west coast to the east coast, to Canada and Mexico, 10's of thousands of Miles. So much that the connectors to the base plate are starting to wear with all of the turns. The tow bar is still in very good condition. We only have 1 issue which is it can get a bit tight if the car is on an angle, either up or down, left to right. But this was a known issue prior to purchase and its very minor. I would buy again! Great product for the cost.

This tow bar is pretty basic, but that’s what I was looking for. It has performed perfectly, no problems of any sort.

There is not a lot of information on the internet about pulling this kind of VW. I did my homework and this works GREAT when pulling a standard transmission with key left in "ON" position. etrailer has a lot of variety to offer for different needs.
This is the lower priced, plain Jane, no frills, less moving parts for something to go wrong - exactly what I was looking for tow bar. With little work it folds up for storage easily. Installation on our '98 diesel VW was clean and easy without incident (I do all my own modifications when needed. There is no rattling loose fit in tight corners or straight a ways. We don't even know we are pulling anything behind our '68 Dodge Travco B210 (modified with 5.9 Cummins)
As always, etrailer has come through superbly. From the order to the timely delivery as always, everything went perfect. I will continue to use etrailer in the future as I have in the past.
Product shipped without one of the locking pins which caused me to question the overall quality of the product. I contacted etrailer regarding the missing locking pin and explained that the product was worthless without it and was assured that it would be sent immediately. It was sent out the same day with USPS with a one-week expected delivery! Keep in mind the original order (which was very heavy) was here in a couple of days. Given the major inconvenience, etrailer couldn't spring for some expedited shipping! Sad!
